Conor Sammon understands fan frustration at rusty Hearts display
Pockets of Tynecastle crowd booed players after Hearts come back to lead 2-1
Conor Sammon shared the Hearts' fans frustration after a rusty Europa League performance at Tynecastle was greeted by booing from some sections of the crowd.
More than 14,000 fans watched Hearts come from behind to take a 2-1 lead over FC Infonet to Estonia for next week's second leg.
Pockets of the crowd showed their displeasure at a performance that saw the hosts register just two shots on target as the early start to the season was visible in Robbie Neilson's players.
Sammon, who was making his Hearts debut, said: "I know it can be frustrating from the fans' point of view.
"It was an incredible attendance considering the timing of the game and the league season not long over.
"We know we were a bit rusty and we didn't play at as high a tempo as we wanted to.
"But we stuck together after conceding the first goal, which wasn't ideal obviously.
"We showed character to get back in front and we were disappointed not to add to our goal tally.
"We knew we could do better than we were showing out there. We were sloppy, there were misplaced passes.
"I've only been here a short time but I can see we have good, young, talented boys who are keen to improve.
"Everyone was on the same page but there was that frustration that we didn't play as well as we can."
Sammon admits the tie is wide open ahead of the match in Tallinn next Wednesday and hopes another week on the training ground can help Hearts raise their game.
The former Derby County striker said: "We know that the tie is there for either side to go and take it.
"We have to play at a quicker tempo. There was a lot of fouls in the game and I think that suited them because the game was very stop-start."
