Scott McDonald has signed a new one-year contract with Motherwell, turning down other offers to extend his stay with the Fir Park club.

The Australian striker had been linked with a reunion with former manager Neil Lennon at Hibernian, but has decided to stay with the Steelmen for the 2016/17 season.

"There were a couple of serious offers on the table for me, but I always had it in my mind that Motherwell was a club where I love being, playing with players and a manager who I respect and supporters who have been very good to me," he said.

McDonald formed a partnership will fellow forward Louis Moult last season, with the duo returning over 30 goals between them as Well finished fifth in the Scottish Premiership.

"Scotty is one of the best players in the country, so we're naturally delighted he has choose Motherwell over the other options he had," said Motherwell boss Mark McGhee.

"We can't compete with some of the bigger sides in Scotland for cash, but Motherwell is a special club that draws people to it, particularly those who have been here for a period of time. It's a welcoming, family environment that both players and staff enjoy.

In two separate stints for Motherwell McDonald has scored 57 goals in 156 games, becoming a cult hero for the Fir Park club.
