Leon Smith appointed new performance director for Scottish tennis
The Davis Cup captain has been charged with capitalising on the Murrays' legacy.
Leon Smith has been appointed Tennis Scotland's new performance director as the sport looks to capitalise on the legacy of Andy and Jamie Murray.
The 40-year-old will combine the new role with his duties as Great Britain's Davis Cup captain and Head of Men's Tennis for the Lawn Tennis Association.
As Scottish tennis' performance director Smith will be charged with making the most of the Murrays' success, taking the lead in key areas of performance and player development, as well as coaching.
"There have been changes recently at Tennis Scotland and I do believe the sport is heading in the right direction which is really exciting," Smith said.
"I would like to contribute to this and work closely with the Chair, the Board and the staff to help influence the future for tennis in Scotland."
"This is a key role for us and I am convinced that the ambitious new plans we are making and the support we are receiving, are beginning to show progress," chair of Tennis Scotland Blane Dodds continued.
"It is a significant step forward for us for Leon to be joining Tennis Scotland and the objective is to deliver more in Scotland on the back of the world class achievements that both Andy and Jamie Murray, and others, are delivering."
