Lewis Toshney has signed a three-year deal to join Dundee United from Raith Rovers.

The defender follows manager Ray McKinnon, who made the switch from Fife to Tannadice earlier in the close season.

After rejecting three previous bids, Raith say they accepted an "undisclosed five-figure" offer for the 24-year-old who has previously played in the top flight for Celtic, Kilmarnock, Ross County and United's city rivals Dundee.

Toshney helped Raith reach last season's Premiership play-offs where the Stark's Park men lost out to Hibernian.

He told United's website: "This is a massive club and I can't wait to get started. It means a lot to me that the Manager has brought me with him, that tells me how much he rates me.

"There are some fantastic players here and, although it is a tough league, we will be challenging for promotion. I am sure of that. I have wanted this move and now that it has happened I want to just focus on getting ready for the start of the campaign."

Following relegation from the top flight, United have added Stewart Murdoch and Cammy Bell to their squad.
