Rangers are to hold talks with former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor.

The 30-year-old free agent will travel to Glasgow on Monday for discussions after his 13-year association with the Magpies came to an end.

Mark Warburton is keen to strengthen his defensive options for life in the Scottish Premiership.

Taylor, who has 29 caps for England U21s, is a former team-mate of Joey Barton, who signed a two-year deal with the Ibrox side earlier this summer.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez told Taylor he would not be part of his plans for next term following the club's relegation from the English Premier League.
