Following the death of Muhammad Ali at the age of 74, we take a look at his life and career in pictures.

Rising star Cassius Clay challenged Sonny Liston for the world heavyweight title in Miami in February 1964.

When the bell sounded for the seventh round, Liston spat out his mouth guard and quit while sat on his stool.

"I am the greatest!", declared Ali.

The Rumble in the Jungle, which took place in Kinshasa (in then Zaire) in 1974 is considered by some to be Ali's most iconic win.

Seven years after being banned for refusing the Vietnam draft, Muhammad Ali was determined to win back the heavyweight title.

Ali and Frazier faced off in the Philippines in 1975.

It was the third time the pair met and the fight went through 14 rounds before Frazier's trainer pulled him out.

The fight is considered by some to be Ali's final truly great boxing performance.

Aged 36 Muhammad Ali became the first man in history to win the world heavyweight title three times after defeating Leon Spinks in New Orleans in 1978.
