Andy Murray beats Stan Wawrinka to reach 2016 French Open final
The Scot defeated the defending champion to set up clash with Novak Djokovic.
Andy Murray will face Novak Djokovic in Sunday's French Open final after defeating Stan Warinka in four sets.
The Scot was in sensational form on Philipe-Chartier to beat the reigning champion 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 to become the first Brit to reach the men's singles final in Paris in 79 years.
After a tense opening service game, second seed Murray secured a break for 2-1 and he remained in control to take the first set 6-4.
He hammered home his advantage in the second, gaining another break with a backhand passing shot down the line for a 4-1 lead. Wawrinka had no answer as the 29-year-old took the second set 6-2.
The Swiss star appeared much more determined in the third and from nowhere he had the set as Murray faltered on serve.
But any hopes of a comeback were dashed as the Dunblane ace broke in the very first game of the fourth. And he secured victory after just over two-and-a-half on court.
Fred Perry was the last male singles champion at Roland Garros in 1935 when he beat Gottfried von Cramm. The German got his revenge the following year before Bunny Austin tasted defeat in the 1937 final.
Djokovic has never claimed the crown in France after losing to Nadal in the 2014 final and Wawrinka last time out. This is Murray's first time in the Paris showpiece after four semi-final appearances.
Meanwhile British wheelchair star Gordon Reid triumphed over world number one Stephane Houdet to reach the final.
Australian Open champion Reid will play Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez on Saturday.
