Rangers and Motherwell have been paired together following the draw for the revamped Scottish League Cup group stages.

The Premiership pair were drawn in Group F for the 2016/17 competition, which is split into eight groups of five divided into the sections covering the north and south of Scotland.

The Steelmen and the Ibrox side last met during the 2014/15 Premiership play-off final with the Fir Park outfit running out 6-1 winners on aggregate. Stranraer, East Stirling and Annan Athletic make up the rest of the group.

Reigning champions Ross County are paired with Raith Rovers, Alloa, Cove Rangers and Montrose.

The matches will be played between July 16 and 30.

The eight group winners and four best runners up will progress to the next round where they will join Scotland's European participants Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian.
