Inverness CT assistant manager Brian Rice says the Highland club would be "stupid" not to explore the possibility of re-signing Billy McKay.

The former Caley Jags striker has spent the season on loan at Dundee United, with the Tannadice club's relegation from the Scottish Premiership confirmed on Monday.

Despite United's relegation, McKay has scored 13 goals this season, making 36 appearances for Mixu Paatelainen's side.

The 27-year-old left Inverness to join Wigan Athletic in January 2015, but Rice admitted that his return would be something for the Caley Jags to examine ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Rice said: "We would be stupid not to look at someone of Billy's pedigree.

"I don't think he's had the best of times at Dundee United, through no fault of his own, but he was magnificent for this club and sometimes you find a club fits you.

"As much as we would like Billy back here, I don't know if Billy would like to come back here."
