Danny Wilson hopes he doesn't need bailed out again in cup final
Rangers take on Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden on May 21.
Rangers defender Danny Wilson is hoping he won't have to rely on his team-mates bailing him out of another cup final when his side take on Hibernian at Hampden later this month.
The 24-year-old was sent off in the 2010 League Cup final for denying St Mirren's Craig Darko a clear goalscoring opportunity, but his side went on to seal a 1-0 win thanks to Kenny Miller's late strike.
He wasn't the only player who went for an early bath that afternoon, Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson was also dismissed 18 minutes before Wilson at the start of the second half.
With the Championship campaign drawing to a close at the weekend Wilson now turns his attentions to the Scottish Cup final on Saturday, May 21.
With six years more experience under his belt the centre half is hoping not to leave his team-mates in such a dangerous position this time around.
"On a personal note for me, to be sent off in the game at 18-years-old was devastating," Wilson said.
"But the team's the most important thing and they managed to rally together that day and get an incredible win under the circumstances so it was a little bit bittersweet for me.
"It was the first time I'd been sent off so I didn't know how to react to it. We did win on the day and I was very fortunate that my team-mates bailed me out but hopefully that doesn't have to happen again.
"Obviously I was delighted the boys managed to do it but I was disappointed in myself for being sent off. I felt very guilty walking out and collecting a medal."
Wilson has been a regular in the heart of defence for Rangers this season and hopes to complete a domestic treble later this month by adding to the Championship trophy and Petrofac Cup.
