Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has said that he needs to add a physical presence to his team after seeing them lose to St Johnstone.

The Perth side were 3-0 winners on Friday night at McDiarmid Park in a game they dominated and McInnes said he recognised one of the reasons for defeat. The loss all but ended his sides hopes of winning the league and he vowed to make changes for next season.

"The best and most determined team won tonight," he said.

"We got dominated at both ends of the pitch. We have lost a few of those types of games this season, based on the lack of physicality, size and strength.

"It is something I am well aware of and we know we need to get more size into the team.

"We looked vulnerable through lack of strength, we were dominated and I thought St Johnstone were more determined.

"Without Ash Taylor there tonight at centre-back, he gives us real presence and aggression, we allowed their centre-forwards to enjoy the game too much which allowed St Johnstone to get up the pitch."

For St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright, the win was what he hoped would be the first of several after the split as he aims to steer his side into fourth place.

"It is easy to say the five games mean nothing but they do, for personal pride," he said.

"We were the fourth best team in the country last year and we want to prove that again this year, even if we don't get into Europe.

"We emphasised that to them all week, don't get your sun tan or Speedos out, there is a long way to go yet in this season and we have got to make sure we finish it strongly.

"We need that performance against a good side.

"From the first whistle we were right at it in terms of stopping them playing and when we had the ball we used it well, put them under pressure and deserved the win.

"It was a performance more like ourselves and when we play like that no one would want to play us.

"A clean sheet and to score three goals against a side I rate highly, you can't ask for any more."
