Dundee Utd boss: Passing Paul Paton fit for semi-final is huge boost
The midfielder is available for selection for the Scottish Cup tie against Hibs.
Mixu Paatelainen has expressed his delight at Paul Paton being passed fit ahead of Dundee United's Scottish Cup semi-final on Saturday.
The midfielder was a doubt for the clash with Hibernian after it was reported he had suffered a serious knee injury.
But Paton, who was sidelined for nine months last year with a knee problem, will be available for selection at the national stadium.
The United head coach says it's a huge boost to have the Northern Irishman back in contention as they look to book their place in next month's final against either Rangers or Celtic who play on Sunday.
"Paul has been magnificent for us this season," Paatelainen said. "He is a leader - not only by his performances but also vocally.
"His crunching tackles are vitally important for us and we are delighted he is available and fit enough to play."
Paatelainen is also hoping Saturday is a special day for the Tangerine support and wants his players to repay them for their dedicated backing this season.
"Our supporters have been brilliant with the way they have supported the team," he continued.
"We've had a horrendous season. Yet they turn out in big numbers every match, they are vocal, they really back the team.
"We can't ask any more but it is a real shame, a pity, that some days our performances don't match that support.
"We want to repay them, send them home happy and give them something to look forward to at the end of a painful season."
