Signing defensive midfielder will be key for Rangers says Warburton
Harry Forrester is close to agreeing a long-term deal with the Ibrox side.
Mark Warburton admits the recruitment of a defensive midfielder will be a key piece of summer business as the Ibrox side prepare for promotion to the Premiership.
Victory over Dumbarton will secure a place in the top flight next term and after conceding nine goals in their last three league matches, concerns have been raised over Rangers' strength at the back.
Andy Halliday and Dominic Ball have fulfilled the role throughout the season after the Light Blues were unable to recruit John Eustace and Toumani Diagouraga.
Now Warburton says finding a holding player to shield his defence will be required in the top flight.
He said: "We'll look for that role certainly. Dom Ball has been excellent for us, Andy Halliday has been asked to play out of position time and time again this season so the boys have stepped up when asked to do so and all credit to them.
"Going up if all goes well then we'll be looking for that key position."
Accrington Stanley pair Josh Windass and Matt Crooks will join Rangers this summer after signing pre-contracts in January while Harry Forrester is close to agreeing a long-term deal.
