Roy McGregor says Ross County's League Cup triumph provides an example for Scottish football's smaller clubs.

The Highland team picked up their first piece of major silverware with victory over Hibernian on Sunday, winning 2-1 at Hampden Park.

The result marked the progression of the Staggies from Highland league club to League Cup winners in the space of two decades.

"It's not personal, it's just about an area, it's about a fanbase," McGregor, long-time chairman of County, said.

"It's about belief and it's about a sense of belonging, that we do belong in Scottish football.

"I'm really proud for the Highland area - the fact that both teams hold the two cups at the moment is just incredulous.

"It's an example for the smaller clubs that if you believe and you have a vision, you can achieve.

"If you have a business plan and you still to it, you can get there."
