Scotland's Matt Scott will miss the rest of the Six Nations after suffering damaged ligaments in his elbow.

The centre, who started against England in February before picking up a thigh injury which kept him out of the trip to Cardiff, picked up the injury playing for club side Edinburgh.

Scott, 25, had the elbow scanned on Monday and the results received on Wednesday confirmed his championship was over.

A Scottish rugby spokesman said: "A MRI scan at Spire Murrayfield Hospital on Monday confirmed that Scott sustained elbow ligament damage in his club's Guinness Pro 12 loss to Connacht on Friday.

"Further examination this Friday will confirm if the player requires surgery on the joint.

"However it is clear at this stage that he will at least miss the remainder of the 2016 Six Nations, and will return to his club for ongoing care and assessment."

Scott, who has 34 caps for Scotland, will leave Edinburgh in the summer to move to English Premiership giants Gloucester.
