Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes charged with abusing match official
The Dons boss faces a touchline ban after being called to account by the Scottish FA.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has been charged with misconduct by the Scottish FA and faces a touchline ban.
McInnes was sent to the stand by referee Bobby Madden during his side's recent 1-0 win at Dundee United after protesting about a disallowed goal.
The governing body have now charged him with breaching rules over conduct and allege that he "used offensive, abusing and insulting language" towards match officials.
McInnes was offered a fixed one match touchline ban if he accepted the charge but that offer has been rejected with the Dons boss contesting the charge.
"I was probably a bit too animated with what I said to the fourth official and I have apologised to him for my part in it," the manager said after the game.
An independent panel will now hear the case on March 24 and if the charge is upheld then McInnes could face a longer dugout ban at a crucial time as his side battle for the Premiership title.
