Porto faced Borussia Dortmund, whilst Molde hosted reigning champions Sevilla and Napoli were paired against Villarreal.

Molde beat Sevilla 1-0, but still went out on aggregate, whilst Lazio claimed a 3-1 win over Galatasaray. Bayer Leverkusen scored a couple of stunning strikes in a 3-1 victory against Sporting Lisbon, and Shakhtar Donetsk also scored three themselves in an impressive win over Schalke.

There was a 1-1 draw between Lokomotiv Moscow and Fenerbahce. Sparta Prague inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Krasnodar, with Athletic Bilbao and Marseille drawing 1-1 at San Mames. Sporting Braga and Sion also drew, but there was a comprehensive 4-0 win for Gary Neville's Valencia against Rapid Vienna.
