St Johnstone boss has said that Julien Faubert's quality is not in question and the former Real Madrid player could be offered a contract at McDiarmid Park.

Faubert, who has also played for West Ham and Bordeaux, has been training with the Perthshire club along with Bulgarian defender Plamen Krachunov. Wright has been impressed by the ability of both players but said he wants a further look before committing.

"Julien and Plamen are here for the next few days and we’ll make a decision on them but both have come in and done quite well," he told STV.

"They’re here for a few more days and we’ll give ourselves a bit more time before we make a decision."

The St Johnstone manager admitted he was unsure as to why a player with Faubert's background was a free agent but said that the right-back, who can also play as a winger, had showed willingness to earn a deal.

"He didn’t get a club at the end of last season after leaving Bordeaux," he said. "He now lives in Barcelona and he has been training with a club but I was made aware that he was quite willing to come over and let us have a look at him.

"I think he’s keen to just get back playing. There’s no doubting his quality but the only concern is that he hasn’t played since the end of last season.

"He has kept himself fit and in terms of quality I think him and Plamen are good quality and if we could do something they would be good additions to the squad."

While a decision will be made on how Faubert can make an impact on the park, Wright revealed he had already made an impression on the squad and could be a leader if he stays.

"I wasn't in the dressing room but my assistant Callum Davidson said a few jaws dropped when he walked in the door," he said. "A few more dropped when they found out who he was as well.

"If he does stay on, he would become another role model for the players here.

"I think we've got a lot of good role models here already but Julien is an excellent footballer, played at the highest level and has come in and mixed well with the lads."

The manager also confirmed that trialist Daniel Adejo had left the club without being offered a deal after a club in Italy made a move to secure his signature.

"Daniel’s gone back to Italy," he said. "He was meant to be here for seven to 10 days for us to have a look but an offer came in.

"He’d only been in with us for a couple of days so we hadn’t seen enough of him. I fully understand that he had to take up a concrete offer."
