Hamilton Accies boss Martin Canning says a change in formation has helped make his backline more solid in recent weeks.

He's opted for three in defence which has seen his side enjoy a run of form in the bottom half of the table.

Accies haven't conceded a goal in three games, beating Kilmarnock and drawing with Hearts and Dundee United, since falling 8-1 to Celtic in January.

Canning says a shift at the back has made his defence tighter and will be looking for a similar performance from them on Saturday when they take on Ross County in Dingwall.

"We've defended a lot better," he said. "We went to a three at the back as well which I think has helped us be a little more solid defensively.

"Obviously Saturday was disappointing for the fact we were solid, there wasn't a lot in it but we missed the late penalty.

"If we'd scored that it would have been two really good weeks having beat Kilmarnock. To follow that up and beat United would have been great but on the balance of the game a draw was probably a fair result."
