Steven Fletcher keen to earn permanent deal at Marseille this summer
The Scotland international plans to prove he can cut it at one of France's top clubs.
Steven Fletcher has said that he is looking beyond his short-term loan at Marseille and eyeing a full contract at the club.
The Scotland international made a deadline-day move from Sunderland to the Ligue 1 side but his contract with the Black Cats expires this summer.
As a free agent, Fletcher would be able to sign for any club but he is prioritising a longer stay in the south of France.
“I’m in a situation with my contract where I’m up in the summer at Sunderland," Fletcher said. "I have the opportunity to come over here, on loan for the remainder of the season and it’s a great opportunity for me to show what I can do.
“If I can impress at Marseille, and they offer me a contract, then that would be fantastic for myself. I have to obviously work hard on the pitch, that’s the main thing.”
The striker, who made a substitute appearance against PSG on Sunday, said he was making an effort to fit in at the club and give himself the best chance of success.
“I’m trying to learn French and I will try and adapt very quickly," he added. "In Sunderland we have a lot of nationalities so it has been easy for me.”
“What I saw on Sunday, the atmosphere was fantastic. That was something I’d never experienced before which was great for me, I want to come here and see the passion of the fans.
“I’ve never, in the Premier League and in Scotland, seen anything like that, it was good.”
