Scotland will take on Italy in a friendly that will be hosted in Malta as Antonio Conte's side prepare for Euro 2016.

Gordon Strachan's side will travel to Ta' Qali for the fixture on Sunday, May 29 as the Italians warm-up for the tournament in France.

It will be the Azzurri's penultimate match before flying to their training camp in Montpellier, with a game against Finland a week after taking on the Scots.

Italy have drawn Belgium, Republic of Ireland and Sweden in Group E of the competition which gets under way on Friday, June 10.

It's the first of two friendlies for Scotland this summer after a meeting with France in Metz on June 4 was confirmed earlier this week.

Gordon Strachan said of the double header: "It is imperative we are ready for the start of the World Cup Qualifiers in September and while we would rather be playing France or Italy in the European Championships, we must prepare properly against two top-class teams who will be highly motivated ahead of the finals.

"Games like these will provide a focus for our players and the coaching staff. They also give us a chance to show that we are capable of competing in such company, as we did in the recent qualifiers against Germany and Poland.

"The camp in Malta has the additional benefit of allowing us to familiarise ourselves with the facilities before our opening match in September."

A double header has already been scheduled for next month with Strachan's side facing Czech Republic in Prague and Denmark at home.

Scotland haven't faced Italy since the heartbreak of missing out on Euro 2008. A late, controversial strike from Christian Panucci ended the dream inside a rain-soaked Hampden in November 2007 in what was the nation's final game of the qualifiers.
