St Mirren moved away from relegation danger in the Ladbrokes Championship with a 1-0 win at home to Queen of the South.

Stephen Mallan scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute, finishing with his right foot into the bottom right corner from a central position.

In a match of few chances the hosts had goalkeeper Jamie Langfield to thank for keeping them in front, pulling off two fine saves in quick succession early in the second half.

He first parried a Jake Pickard header and then tipped a header from the same player over the bar.

The win, St Mirren's second in a row, moved them up a place to seventh and left them just four points behind their opponents.
