Derek McInnes sees no reason to make Aberdeen captaincy switch
Injured Ryan Jack will remain Dons skipper despite Graeme Shinnie's cameo.
Derek McInnes insists he has given no consideration to changing his captain despite Graeme Shinnie's display in the win over Celtic.
Ryan Jack was handed the armband following Russell Anderson's retirement last summer but is currently out injured, having last appeared against Partick Thistle on December 30.
Shinnie led the team to victory against the Scottish champions in midweek but he won't be replacing Jack on a permanent basis.
Dons boss McInnes said: "Shinnie’s performance was great but he plays the same way whether he’s captain or not. I thought he was in good company in terms of intensity of play, the pressure on the ball, the tenacity of our play the other night.
"I don't think it's that important to be honest to have several options as captain. Ryan Jack is our captain and will remain so. There’s no reason to change that.
"We felt for different reasons that we wanted Shinnie to have the armband while Ryan was out. What has to be said is that Mark Reynolds was excellent in the game as well.
"What we do want rather than looking about a dressing room wondering ‘who can be captain?’ or ‘I don’t really have a captain’. Instead I’ve got several there that I can lean on any time to do the role.
"At the start of the season I said Ryan Jack is my captain and nothing has changed."
