The 24-year-old recorded the biggest win of his career in the quarter-finals, claiming a straight sets victory over former world number one Shingo Kunieda.
Gerard is currently ranked fourth in the world, making him slight favourite against Reid - whose ranking stands at fifth.
Reid's success continues what has been a successful Australian Open for Great Britain's players.
Jamie Murray secured his passage into the men's doubles final on Thursday morning, although Johanna Konta's run to the women's semi-finals was brought to an end.
