Andy Murray beats David Ferrer to make Australian Open semi-final
Andy Murray wins 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 6-2 6-3 to take another step closer to the final.
Andy Murray has beaten David Ferrer in four sets to reach his sixth Australian Open semi-final.
The world number two defeated the Spaniard 6-3 6-7 (5/7) 6-2 6-3 to take another step closer to claiming his third Grand Slam title.
Murray will now face Milos Raonic on Friday. Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will meet in the other semi-final.
"I think I played well today," Murray said. "It was probably the best match I’ve played, especially in the second and third sets.
"I started hitting the ball better from the back of the court.
"The start of the tournament was good and obviously the last few days have been tough. I maybe hadn’t played my best tennis but managed to get through.
"Today I felt like by the end of the match I was playing some good stuff and moving well. There’s some stuff I can still do better, for sure, but it wasn’t easy circumstances today what with the changing of conditions and the warm-up for the match indoors, starting the match outdoors then changing back."
With his brother Jamie also in the last four of the men's doubles, it marks the first time two brothers have reached the semi-finals of the Open across both singles and doubles.
Gordon Reid has also enjoyed success in Melbourne, reaching the semi-finals of the Wheelchair Singles. The 24-year-old Scot defeated top seed Shingo Kuneida 6-3 7-6.
