Alan Stubbs has insisted he has no concerns about making up a five point gap on Scottish Championship leaders Rangers.

Hibernian slipped further behind Mark Warburton’s side after being held 1-1 at Falkirk, who sit above the Easter Road men on goal difference.

But Stubbs said he always foresaw the title race being a rollercoaster, and has backed his side to eat into the points gap again, after previously reeling in the Ibrox men earlier in the season.

The Hibs head coach said: “It was eight [points], and we managed to claw that back. So five doesn’t cause me a problem.

“We have done it before and there’s no reason why we won’t do it again.

“Yes, we wanted to pick up maximum points on Sunday – and I thought we were unlucky not to do so.

“But I’ve said all along there’s plenty of twists and turns to come.

“I think everybody thought I was saying it to try to be awkward but I wasn’t – I knew there would be.

“Our form is good and we’ve got some fantastic games coming up.”

Loan signing Anthony Stokes is set to feature against St Mirren on Saturday, despite the player not participating in a full week of training.

Stubbs, who is also close to confirming the signing of midfielder Kevin Thomson for a third stint at Hibs, said: “It will be good to finally incorporate him into the team.

“We’ve only worked a little bit with him this week with other things on.

“But we are focusing towards Saturday now and Anthony will be in the squad ready to participate.”
