Kris Doolan wants to secure his place in Partick Thistle’s history books by reaching the 100 goal mark after signing a new contract at Firhill.

The 29-year-old, who arrived in Maryhill in 2009, has agreed a contract until the summer of 2019 to ensure he’ll receive a testimonial.

Fans’ favourite Doolan hit his 82nd goal for the club in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to Dundee, a tally that places him 15th in Thistle’s all time goalscoring list.

Doolan is one behind Dougie Somner and 144 adrift of Willie Sharp’s record of 226.

Saturday’s trip to Inverness CT will be Doolan’s 258th for Alan Archibald’s men and he believes he has plenty more to achieve at Thistle.

He told STV: People always say ‘should you leave?’ but at the end of the day when you are happy somewhere and you feel comfortable that makes people want to stay. Partick Thistle is a club like that for me, we fit like a glove.

I’m closing in on the 100 goal mark and I’m just outside the top 10 all-time top scorers so I could hit both of those within this contract so that’s a big aim for me.

Every time I seem to score a goal I break a record or somebody else’s record so it is always nice to hear these kinds of things. I keep my head down, score as many as I can.

Manager Alan Archibald believes facing Dundee United twice in quick succession close to the transfer window will hamper any attempt to bring Chris Erskine back to the club early.

Archibald discussed his talks with defender Frederic Frans in December over the defender’s lack of first-team football as the Belgian prepares to return for the suspended Liam Lindsay.
