Rangers boss Mark Warburton is confident he can welcome new signings to the club before their Scottish Championship clash with Morton on Monday.

The Ibrox side have been linked with St Johnstone's Michael O'Halloran and Brentford's Toumani Diagouraga during the January transfer window.

Speaking after the win over Livingston on Saturday, Warburton said he was confident of completing deals for a "couple of players" in "the coming days."

St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown confirmed on Tuesday there had been no fresh bids from Rangers after their initial two for O'Halloran had been rejected.

Warburton again refused to speak about possible signing targets or confirm his interest in either midfielder but said he was hopeful new faces would be in place in time for their next fixture.

"We're making good progress," he said. "Sometimes these things happen quickly, other times they demand more negotiation and there's toing and froing so fingers crossed we can get them over the line.

"We will never speak about another club's player, you know how we work and we're never going to change. We only ever talk about any players when we secure them and they are Rangers players so it would be inappropriate to change that now.

"If we find that quality that we think improves us we'll make that move and sometimes to secure that quality it takes time.

"If the work goes ahead and all parties are happy then I'm very hopeful we will [have the players in before the Morton game]."

Warburton also confirmed the decision for Nathan Oduwa to return to his Spurs was a mutual agreement between both clubs.

The winger's loan deal was cut short at the start of the week but the Rangers manager dismissed the notion it was because he was unable to fit into the Scottish game.

He continued: "He's their asset, he's their player and we've maintained really good communication. All parties agreed the best thing for Nathan was to go back and we maintain that relationship with Tottenham.

"He came here, experienced 50,000 crowds and did very well, now it was the decision between the two clubs to make sure he moves on to the next stage of his education."

Meanwhile, Warburton says the club will not be pursuing their interest in Latvian striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis who was on trial with the club last month.

The 20-year-old sent a plea to Rangers on Tuesday saying he wanted to sign for the Ibrox side, but Warburton went on to explain it wouldn't be happening.

"If we listened to pleas from all the players we'd be in a real state," he said.

"We look at a number of players and if we think they can add value to us then great, but if he's as good as we have got then why add to it.

"We know the boys here, their character and their quality, it's important that any player brings us something we don't currently have."
