Mark Warburton says Rangers won't spend over the odd****s for St Johnstone striker Michael O'Halloran or anyone other player during the January transfer window.

The Ibrox club have been linked with the goalscorer, who netted against them in the League Cup earlier this season, but have had two six-figure bids rejected.

The Perth men have so far refused to do business with reports suggesting Rangers' offer will have to be increased before talks begin.

Warburton declined to discuss a possible move for O'Halloran but did warn his Championship side will not be fleeced when it comes to negotiations this month.

"Rangers go about their business without talking about any other club's players," he said.

"There's a lot of stuff in the papers that is wrong and bizarre, we are linked to so many players but we will do our talking when we finish any business.

"The players we bring in have to represent value for the club. There is a fine line between being brave in a decision and making a poor decision.

"It's like buying a house, if you're not comfortable with the figure you are going to pay then don't pay it. There are other houses on the market so go and find one you are comfortable with.

"We decide what we think represents value. We know the southern market better but we're learning about the Scottish market very quickly.

"We think we know what is good value. Other people might disagree, but that's our figure. It's got to work for the selling club too but we are comfortable our judgement is good."

Warburton also said he would prefer to do business as soon as possible instead of letting it drag on over the course of the month.

"The longer you leave it I think club's on both sides of the equation make poor decisions," he said. "I compare it to house buying, people panic and make poor decisions and wrong moves.

"I'm a fan of getting the business done early, identifying, opening contact and dialogue early. I'd far rather get it done sooner rather than later."

Meanwhile, Warburton confirmed there has been no interest for goalkeeper Cammy Bell after he was linked to Aberdeen as a possible replacement for Danny Ward.

"Cammy's a Rangers player, he does what he's told under contract here," he said.

"He's had a long injury, nine months out, and he's working tirelessly everyday to get himself fit to be in a position to impact games as and when required, but there's been no interest from other clubs."
