Tam Scobbie admits St Johnstone must stop conceding 'sloppy goals'
The defender cited poor goals conceded in the mid-week defeat to Motherwell.
St Johnstone have now gone three games without scoring, but defender Tam Scobbie is focused on tightening things up at the back in 2016.
Saints had already surpassed last season's 34-goal tally before drawing blanks against Celtic, Hearts and Motherwell in the Premiership, but have also conceded 31 so far, just three short of the total number from last term.
While fans might be getting more value for money at St Johnstone games, Scobbie is more interested in making sure they stop shipping goals following their 2-0 defeat at Fir Park on Wednesday, when they conceded from a corner and then a counter-attack, just after Chris Kane had passed up a good chance to level.
"We just need to tighten up," said Scobbie ahead of Sunday's visit of Aberdeen. "We have been conceding quite sloppy goals.
"The manager has picked up on it, even when we were on the good run, we are conceding goals that we weren't conceding last year. It's something we need to rectify.
"The difference was, when we were on that good run, we were scoring goals for fun.
"When those two things go together, if we can score goals and not concede as many as we have, then we can pick up another great result against Aberdeen on Sunday.
"We created some chances on Wednesday night. Kano's one at 1-0 was a big chance and looking back he might have thought about taking it first time.
"But he's a young lad and he will learn from it, the goalkeeper has made himself big and has done well.
"In the second half we pressed and pressed but just never seemed to find the cutting edge to nick that goal. But it wasn't to be and we will look forward to Sunday against Aberdeen.
"I'm sure they will bring a fantastic support and we will look forward to the game."
