Labour gain first Scottish seat from SNP in election
The nationwide exit poll indicates the SNP are set to lose 22 seats in Scotland.
Labour has gained Hamilton and Rutherglen South from the SNP in the first declared result from Scotland in the general election.
The party's candidate Gerard Killen triumphed in the constituency with 19,101 votes and an increased share of the vote.
Incumbent SNP candidate Margaret Ferrier finished in second place with the Nationalists share of the vote falling 15.5%.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives upped their share of the vote by 12%.
The result came after an exit poll suggested Nicola Sturgeon's party could lose 22 seats across Scotland.
After being elected, Killen said: "This result is a rejection of austerity and a rejection of a divisive second independence referendum.
"Above all, this result is a vote for a progressive manifesto and a fresh start for Rutherglen and Hamilton West."
