STV reveals plans for general election 2017 coverage
Overnight results programme will be hosted by political editor Bernard Ponsonby.
STV has revealed its plans for extensive coverage of the 2017 general election with an overnight results programme.
The show will be hosted by political editor Bernard Ponsonby, Halla Mohieddeen and Rona Dougall and will begin broadcasting at 9.55pm on Thursday June 8.
As the polls close at 10pm, STV will have the results of a UK-wide exit poll, commissioned by ITV, BBC and Sky.
Throughout the night, the presenters will be joined in the studio by panels of senior politicians, opinion formers and expert commentators, while STV journalists will be reporting the latest results from count centres across Scotland.
Working with ITV News, STV will also bring viewers all the key developments from across the UK. The live, overnight programme will be simulcast on STV2.
It will follow on from STV's live TV debate featuring the leaders of the four Scottish parties on Wednesday, May 24.
All content will be streamed live on a wide range of platforms via the STV Player, while there will be comprehensive online coverage in the lead up to the election, including Facebook Lives, a live blog with up to the minute results and reaction overnight on June 8.
Gordon Macmillan, STV's head of news, said: "We look forward to bringing our viewers all the latest news, opinions and analysis in the run up to the general election.
"Our content offers viewers a wide choice of programmes, including a live debate on May 24 that will give audience members a chance to question the leaders of the main Scottish parties, and our live face-to-face interviews with the party leaders that will give viewers the opportunity to learn more about the issues that matter to them."
