Sadiq Khan backs Dugdale's call for new Act of Union
The mayor of London said he wanted to see further devolution to the UK's capital.
The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has backed Kezia Dugdale's calls for a new Act of Union for the UK.
The Scottish Labour leader set out her vision for a move to a more federal UK earlier in the week.
She said further devolution to Scotland and the English regions were needed in light of Brexit.
Gordon Brown threw his support behind the proposal earlier.
A blueprint of the plans will be brought before Scottish Labour's conference in February.
Khan said: "Kezia Dugdale has set out a welcome and ambitious vision for our United Kingdom.
"As mayor of London, I am forging a new cross-party consensus on further devolution to the UK capital.
"As in Scotland, this is about protecting jobs, wealth and prosperity. Londoners should have more control over how taxes raised in our city are spent.
"The entire country will benefit from this - if we increase investment, London and the UK will grow.
"Kez is right to call for a UK-wide constitutional convention that should lead to a new Act of Union."
SNP MSP Linda Fabiani said earlier: "If Labour are finally committed to more powers for the parliament then we look forward to their fulsome support as we make the case - as we always have - for a parliament with full powers.
"However, Labour have been promising a supercharged, powerhouse, federalism-max for years - and consistently failing to deliver it."
