Diane James replaces Nigel Farage as leader of Ukip
The South East England MEP fought off competition from four rivals for the job.
Ukip MEP Diane James has been elected as the party's new leader.
She will replace Nigel Farage, who has stood down from the role following the Leave campaign's victory in June's referendum.
Farage delivered his final speech as leader to conference delegates in Bournemouth before the result was announced.
He said: "Today closes the chapter of what has been a very extraordinary few years. I honestly, looking back, could never really have dreamt that we would have achieved what we have.
"I have put absolutely all of me into this. I literally couldn't have worked any harder or couldn't have been more determined.
"In a sense, I guess it has been my life's work to try to help get this party to this point.
"I frankly don't think I could do any more. I think, folks, I've done my bit."
Farage also pledged to continue to lead Ukip's MEPs in the European Parliament.
Before entering politics James managed a healthcare consultancy business.
She was elected in 2014 to serve as an MEP for the South East England region in the European Parliament.
James saw off four rival contenders for the job.
Bill Etheridge, Lisa Duffy, Liz Jones and Phillip Broughton also contested the election.
