Palace of Westminster faces 'catastrophe' without £4bn repairs
The building is at risk of an event such as a major fire or 'succession of incremental failures'.
The Palace of Westminster faces an "impending crisis" and a growing risk of a "catastrophic event", according to a report by MPs and peers.
The Joint Committee on the Palace of Westminster have recommended moving out of the building entirely for a multi-billion pound programme of essential renovations to take place.
Under the plans, the Commons chamber would be moved to the Department of Health's current offices, while the Lords would sit in the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre.
The report said: "The Palace of Westminster, a masterpiece of Victorian and medieval architecture and engineering, faces an impending crisis which we cannot responsibly ignore.
