Angela Eagle will challenge Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership.

It comes after union-backed peace talks aimed at resolving the crisis at the top of the party collapsed.

Eagle will formally announce her challenge on Monday morning, where she will set out her "vision for the country and the difference a strong Labour Party can make".

She said Corbyn had failed "to lead an organised and effective" opposition.

Corbyn, who won a landslide victory last September, has faced mounting pressure to resign since nearly his entire shadow cabinet resigned and Labour MPs passed a motion of no confidence in him following the EU referendum.

Speaking before Eagle confirmed her leadership challenge, Corbyn urged the party to "come together".

Tom Watson, the party's deputy leader, earlier announced "with regret and sadness" that there was little to be achieved in persisting with talks with the unions, who are staying loyal to Corbyn.
