More than 200 Scottish Labour members, including former minister Margaret Curran, have signed a letter calling on Jeremy Corbyn to step down.

The letter, released on Wednesday, was released following Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray's resignation from the shadow cabinet.

The signatories back his move, saying Mr Corbyn "wants to captain a ship for which he has no crew".

As well as Ms Curran, the letter was signed by former MSP Lord Foulkes and former party chairman Jamie Glackin.

MEP Catherine Stihler, MSP Daniel Johnson and the former head of Glasgow city council Gordon Matheson also added their names.

The letter said: "The leader of the Labour Party must have the confidence of the MPs they lead in parliament.

"With Tuesday's vote of no confidence, it is clear that no longer exists.

"Nearly nine million people voted for the MPs that expressed no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday - their views should be respected and Jeremy Corbyn should stand aside.

"We hear time and time again from ordinary people up and down the country that they cannot see Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister."

It added: "Some have accused Ian Murray MP of self-interest. This is absurd. The only self-interest that can be levelled at him is that he wants to serve in a future Labour Government - something all our MPs should aspire to.

"Ian also works around the clock on behalf of our party in his constituency, Scotland and across the UK.

"We need a credible, competent opposition, but Jeremy Corbyn is currently unable to fill all positions on his front bench.

"Jeremy Corbyn wants to captain a ship for which he has no crew. For the good of the party and, more importantly, the country, he must step aside."
