Support for independence at 53% after Brexit vote, poll finds
The research by Survation for the Scottish Daily Mail found 47% are behind indyref2.
A new opinion poll has found 53% of Scots would vote for independence if a referendum was held tomorrow.
The poll, carried out in the five days since the Brexit vote, also found 47% of Scots want a second independence referendum.
It suggested around 17% of those who voted No in 2014 would now vote for independence, while around 9% of those who voted Yes have switched sides.
The Survation research for the Scottish Daily Mail spoke to 1055 adults in Scotland.
SNP business convener Derek Mackay said the poll showed a "strong endorsement" of the First Minister's drive to keep Scotland in Europe.
The poll found 47% would vote Yes if a second independence referendum were held tomorrow, with 41% for No and 12% undecided.
With the "don't knows" removed the figures represent a 53/47 split.
Around 42% said there should not be a second independence referendum, while 47% said there should be.
The poll also found 35% of SNP voters backed the Leave campaign
Following Nicola Sturgeon's comments that it would be "democratically unacceptable" that Scotland faced the prospect of leaving the EU, 52% said they agreed with the remarks while around 33% said they disagreed.
Mr Mackay said: "This poll is another strong endorsement of the actions of the First Minister and shows that when faced with the choice between being taken out of the EU against our will by a right wing Tory government, or continuing as outward looking, independent members of the EU more and more people are open to the possibilities independence brings."
He added: "It is very clear that people in Scotland are simply unwilling to accept being dragged out of the EU against our will by a right-wing Tory government with no regard for Scotland's interests.
"At a time when the UK Government and opposition are in chaos, this poll shows people back Nicola Sturgeon's strong and stable leadership and support her decision to ensure a second independence referendum is firmly on the table and to explore all options to protect Scotland's relationship with Europe."
