Scottish Labour councillor suspended for alleged anti-Semitic comments
An investigation has been launched by the party.
A Scottish Labour councillor has been suspended while alleged anti-Semitic comments are investigated.
Terry Kelly, who represents the Paisley North West council ward, made the comments in series of blog posts several years ago.
In the blog posts Kelly alleges that the Oscars are rigged by the "powerful Jewish lobby" and that President Obama's foreign policy is influenced by Jewish Americans as "the American Jewish Lobby is extremely powerful and it has its boot on Obama's neck".
Following the allegations coming to light on the Guido Fawkes website Labour suspended Kelly and another councillor.
A spokesperson for Scottish Labour said: "Terry Kelly has been suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation."
Kelly is the latest in a number of Labour officials to be suspended by the party over alleged anti-Semitic comments.
On Thursday former London mayor and chairman of Labour's defence policy review Ken Livingstone was suspended from the party after claiming that Hitler was a Zionist.
In a radio interview Livingstone said Hitler was a Zionist "before he went mad and ended up killing six million Jews" and claimed there was a "well-orchestrated campaign by the Israel lobby to smear anybody who criticises Israel policy as anti-Semitic".
Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale said on the campaign trail on Wednesday that the anti-Semitism row is effecting the campaign.
Dugdale said: "It has unquestionably had an effect.
"I am not going to go into the business of analysing what has happened over the past few days, but it is coming up on the doorsteps.
"I haven't directly spoken to Jeremy about it. I did speak to him yesterday about the final hours of the campaign, I am in regular touch with him.
"I didn't feel that would add anything. I am going to do what I always said I would do, which is focus on the positive reasons for voting Labour."
