The Government's decision to spend £9.3m on pro-EU leaflets is an "insult to voters", a Conservative former minister said on Monday.

Eurosceptic John Redwood claimed the move is an abuse of taxpayers' cash and an "insult" to voters.

Speaking in the House of Commons, he added that more people will be persuaded to vote for a Brexit by the distribution of the leaflets.

Mr Redwood was responding after Europe minister David Lidington defended the booklet - which is to be delivered to households across the UK ahead of June's referendum.
