More than 40 firefighters worked through the night in an effort to extinguish a blaze at a restaurant in Aberdeen.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent eight appliances to the scene in Carden Place when the alarm was raised at 2.11am on Monday.

The fire, which took hold of the two-storey premises, caused the roof to collapse.

At around 2.30pm, the SFRS said five appliances remain in attendance with crews working to extinguish the blaze.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Police said the road was closed between Fountainhall Road and Albyn Terrace and advised people to avoid the area.

Ally Birkett, SFRS group commander for Aberdeen city, said: “This has been a large and challenging incident.

“Crews have been here throughout the night working to bring this fire under control.

“We’re currently making good progress, but firefighting operations remain active.

“Please be aware that a number of road closures are in place around Carden Place and the surrounding area.”
