A man's body has been recovered from a river near a beach.

Police were called to the scene at the Barry Burn in Carnoustie, Angus, at about 12.40pm on Sunday.

Officers cordoned off the area near Carnoustie Golf Hotel following the discovery.

Although the death is currently being treated as unexplained, it is not believed to be suspicious.

The man's next of kin have been made aware, however no further details will be released until he is formally identified.

Detective Inspector Ray Birnie said: "Enquiries are at early stage and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"However, initial enquiries suggest there are no suspicious circumstances ."
