A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a car outside a pub.

The incident happened near the Staging Post pub on Old Meldrum Road in Aberdeen at 7.30pm on Wednesday.

A man in his 50s was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries after being struck by a white Skoda Octavia.

Officers have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with the incident.

The road was closed for eight hours while investigations were carried out.

Inspector Stewart Drummond said: "The area would have been busy at the time and we are urging anyone who was around to contact us.

"We have spoken to a number of people so far and will continue with this today.

"I'd like to thank the public for their patience with the road closure while we carried out necessary enquiries."
