The body of a man has been found in snow, five months after going missing.

Marcin Bialas was last seen on January 21 while walking near the summit of Ben Nevis.

Major searches have been carried out since the 36-year-old was reported missing by friends.

A body has now been discovered on Observatory Gully, Ben Nevis, and his family have been informed.

It's understood Mr Bialas fell through a cornice, an overhanging ledge of snow.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Formal identification is still to take place but the family of Marcin Bialas have been informed.

"A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."

A Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team spokesman added: "The team recovered the body from high in Observatory Gully with considerable difficulty.

"Our thoughts and sincerest condolences go out to his partner, family and friends."
