Aberdeen MPs are taking part in an event to celebrate the life of Jo Cox.

The Great Get Together event was inspired by Mrs Cox's maiden speech as an MP in which she said: "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us."

Events across the UK are taking place around what would have been the Labour MP's birthday and two years since she was murdered by far-right extremist Thomas in her Batley and Spen constituency.

Councillor Jennifer Stewart put forward the proposal that all Aberdeen MPs be involved in the event, and it was unanimously accepted.

Ms Stewart said: "This committee believes that Jo Cox's message that 'we have more in common that which divides us' has relevance today and demonstrates the spirit that politics and public service should embody".

The MPs will celebrate at the Town House in Aberdeen on Friday night.
