A road is expected to close this weekend for work on the Aberdeen Bypass.

Transport Scotland said it anticipated a section of the B999 Aberdeen to Tarves Road to close from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Monday.

Road users intending to travel north should travel via the A90 from Murcar before joining the B977 Echt to Balmedie Road at the new Balmedie Junction and then back onto the B999 Aberdeen to Tarves Road.

The reverse journey should be used by those intending to travel south.

Diversions will be signposted along the route.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: "We understand the importance of this road to the local community but the road closure is necessary to enable the contractor to undertake these re-lining works.

"The contractor has planned for this closure to take place over a weekend to minimise any impact it may have on road users.

"We would like to encourage those drivers who would consider using this road to plan their journey in advance. They should also consider leaving earlier than they would normally so that they can reach their destination safely and on time.

"We thank road users in advance for their patience during this period."
