First phase of landslip protection project completed
Work has ended to secure a large protective mesh at Harbour Road in Gardenstown.
The first phase of work to protect residents of a north east village from landslips has been completed.
Aberdeenshire Council said the final soil nails have now been put in to secure a large protective mesh at Harbour Road in Gardenstown.
The mesh will help restrict further movement and degradation of the slope, preventing materials falling onto the road.
With the first phase of work complete, Harbour Road will return to full width with the removal of a temporary block wall.
A council spokesman said foliage has already started to grow on the site, and over the coming months is expected to cover the mesh completely.
Several hundred poppy seeds have also been planted in the middle of the slope on behalf of the local Heritage Centre.
Philip McKay, Aberdeenshire Council's head of roads, said: "I am pleased to see that the initial work to stabilise the landslip has been completed.
"A great deal of work has gone into this phase of the works. Thank you to all the staff and contractors who worked on the project.
"Also, thank you to the residents of Gardenstown for their patience whilst the work has been under way."
