A primary school in Dundee is the first in Scotland to be given an LGBT Charter award.

Downfield Primary School has been presented with the award from LGBT Youth Scotland after a team of nine pupils reviewed and developed the school's policies.

The award represents the school's ongoing commitment to improving their policies and values around inclusion.

LGBT Youth Scotland praised parents at the school for their support, with some writing letters to the headteacher to say how their children had benefited from the equality drive.

Previous recipients of the award include Barnardo's Scotland and Scottish Women's Aid, as well as 18 high schools across the country.

Downfield was presented with the award at a special ceremony on Monday featuring speeches, songs and a cardboard rainbow flag made by 400 people connected with the school.
