An MSP has praised schoolchildren whose artwork has gone on display in the Scottish Parliament this week.

Jessica Broadrick, from Portlethen Academy, won a nationwide art competition marking Scotland's Year of Young People.

Her work is now being displayed alongside that of other pupils from around the country at Holyrood.

The theme of the competition was My Future Aspirations, encouraging young people to create works that showed their hopes and dreams for the future.

Maureen Watt, MSP for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine said: "The competition challenges S1 and S2 pupils from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to create a self-portrait which illustrates their personal aspirations for future learning, development, and career choices.

"Bringing some of this year's fantastic entries to the Scottish parliament is a unique opportunity to showcase the talent and creativity of young people from across the north east of Scotland.

"I wish to congratulate all those involved in the competition and wish them further success in the future - whatever their chosen field."
