A family fun day is being held in Aberdeen to mark the end of Ramadan.

Eid in the Garden, organised by the voluntary group Aberdeen Muslims, takes place at the city's Rubislaw Gardens on Sunday from noon.

The free event has been held since 2013, but this is the first yea it has coincided exactly with Eid-al-Fitr, the feast day which brings to an end a month of fasting.

Visitors will be treated to a barbecue and other food, a large kids zone, henna painting, comedy from Citizen Khan star Abdullah Afzal and stalls where they can learn more about Islam.

Mamun Razzak, event co-founder of Eid in the Garden and a committee member of the city's new Masjid Alhikmah mosque, said: "Eid in the Garden has been a firm favourite in Aberdeen's exciting events calendar since its inception in 2013.

"This will be the first year when the actual event is on the same weekend as Eid-al-Fitr, so we expect it to be a record breaking year in terms of turnout.

"We are also excited that worshippers of the newly opened Masjid Alhikmah Mosque will be able to join us for the first time - it is a definitely an exciting time for the Muslim community in Aberdeen, whom have always added to the city's cultural diversity".

Aberdeen Lord Provost Barney Crockett said: "It is great Aberdeen Muslims are organising Eid in the Garden again this year. I attended the very first one in Union Terrace Gardens, which was a massive success.

"The event showcases the many nationalities within the diverse Muslim and wider community and it is a great way for Aberdonians to celebrate the end of Ramadan together."
